    Scheduled RCE Maintenance

    7:00am to 8:00am

    Date/Time: Tue, 5/26 7am-8am (07:00-08:00)

    Maintenance:  HMDC staff will be updating a number of applications including NX, Java, Emacs, JAGS, RStudio

    Applications affected:  This outage will only impact a few applications in the RCE.  We expect a brief outage, of  no more than 10 minutes for any user that attempts to start Emacs or an application that uses Java, eg the rJava module in R.  Anyone already using emacs or Java will *not* be affected. ...

    Currently Experiencing Network Issues

    3:15pm to 12:00am

    As of 3:15 PM today, Tuesday, March 7th, we are currently experiencing intermittent network failures. This affects the entirety of the RCE as well as all services at HMDC. We are currently working with HUIT to identify and solve the problem.

    If you are currently running interactive jobs on the RCE, I suggest you save your work as a precaution, however, I do not anticipate this outage causing any ill effect on currently running jobs.

    Urgent Scheduled Outage: Tuesday Feb 3, 07:00-08:00

    7:00am to 8:00am

    When: Tuesday Feb 3, 7am-8am

    What:  Server reboots to implement a critical patch

    Affected Services:  RCE (NX, SSH, RCE Powered and batch jobs), DVN, CGA, DB access, SFTP, CVS

    HMDC operations staff will be rebooting many of our critical servers starting at 07:00 on Tuesday Feb 3.  We expect the reboots to take no more than 1 hour to complete.  This reboot is required to fix a very serious exploitable bug in one of the core Linux OS libraries.  This will cause all current RCE NX/ssh/and compute...

    Emergency RCE NX portal restart

    1:00pm to 2:00pm

    UPDATE:  We are seeing login failures and are working to fix the problem.
    Due to an issue with logfiles on our RCE NX portal server we will need to restart the NX service today 1/26 at 13:00 (1pm).  The restart should take less than 1 minute.
    What:  NX service restart
    When: Monday 1/26, 13:00 (lasting no more than 1 minute)

    Scheduled database outage

    9:00pm to 9:30pm

    In order to improve our logging process, we are applying an update to our database servers (dbr-2, dbr-3) which requires a restart of MariaDB (MySQL's replacement). Although the outage time is minimal, it will interrupt any active connections, and cancel any import/export processes.

    Scheduled RCE Outage

    8:00am to 1:00pm

    NOTE:  We are extending this outage until 1pm to iron out some continued keyboard mapping issues.
    HMDC will be performing maintenance on our RCE servers on Jan 5 2015 from 8am-12pm.  
    During this time no new sessions or logins will be allowed and all RCE Powered Interactive and batch jobs will be terminated.  We will be updating basic OS packages along with our remote windowing service NX4.

    Unschedule Network Outage: Dec 5

    10:30am to 2:30pm

    Harvard networking has alerted the campus of a university-wide network issue.  This is affecting many users on campus and may also affect users ability to login to HMDC services such as the RCE and other hosted websites.

    Scheduled Network Maintenance, 06:00 - 07:00 Thu 11/13

    6:00am to 7:00am

    HUIT will be switching out a failing fiber optic uplink device in CGIS area on 11/13 Thu morning from 06:00 - 07:00.  During this period there will be brief interruptions to traffic outside of CGIS.  No services at CGIS are expected to be affected.  Only users connecting to CGIS hosted services (RCE, CGA, DVN dev, Web, etc) externally will experience a degradation in service during the maintenance window.

    7:00am to 7:30am

    On Wed morning 11/12 07:00--7:30 we will be migrating the final volumes from our old backend storage.  During this outage the following services will be unavailable:

    *RCE:
    CVS: cvs.hmdc.harvard.edu
    SFTP: sftp.hmdc.harvard.edu

    *CGA:
    http://sendai.hmdc.harvard.edu/
    publish.hmdc.harvard.edu

    The other RCE and CGA related services will not be affected by this outage.
